Pride event canceled because they were going to give away banned books

Image
Dallas suburb Princeton just had its Pride event canceled because of a school district’s book ban policy, Dallas Voice reports. The Pride event, organized by Princeton TX Diverse, was scheduled to take place at Princeton High School as it had last year. However, the district canceled the event. They cited a lack of disclaimer about what pride is on a Facebook post and that the event was going to give away books the district has banned. Related Minnesota bans book bans A new law makes it illegal to remove titles from libraries based on ideology, including LGBTQ+ content. The district has not provided a list of what books were banned to the organizers of Princeton’s Pride event. Gay MAGA man’s unhinged meltdown over Donald Trump’s conviction goes viral

A gay man having an absolute meltdown while protesting Donald Trump’s conviction on 34 criminal counts in his hush money trial is going viral online. “Fa***t! You’re the fa***t! You’re the fa***t! Get the f**k out of here!” the man shouted from a New York City sidewalk at a passerby. A member of the notorious New England NSC-131 neo-Nazi group has been arrested on child pornography charges. Arizona schools are failing to provide sex education & homophobia is to blame

Image
At least eight Arizona school districts offer no sexual education, using opposition to LGBTQ+ issues as an excuse, LOOKOUT reports. Investigators analyzed the sexual education curriculum of 18 public schools across rural, suburban, and urban areas of the state, reaching out to school officials from each district. Of the 18 public schools that were analyzed, eight of them were found to have no sexual education policies and are especially lacking in provisions for LGBTQ+ students. These districts are Gita Bend, Duncan, Parker, Heber-Overgaard, Kingman, Ganado, Nogales, and Scottsdale.  Related Out Arizona Rep. Rep. DeShanna Neal made headlines fighting for their daughter’s health care. Now they’re a lawmaker.

Image
Activist, author, and Delaware state Rep. DeShanna Neal (D) first came to public attention when they battled Medicaid over coverage of their daughter’s gender-affirming care, becoming front-page news across the First State. Life hasn’t been the same since. With their newfound celebrity, the 41-year-old mother of four helped create Delaware’s first pediatric gender clinic, started the state’s first-ever Drag Queen Story Hour, founded New Castle County’s LGBTQ Youth Pride Day with their daughter Trinity, and founded the nonprofit Intersections of Pride Foundation, which works to bridge the gaps faced by the LGBTQ+ community. In 2022, they were elected Delaware’s first nonbinary state lawmaker. Along with their activist bona fides, Neal has an infectious sense of humor, which was on full display as they spoke from their home in Wilmington. I started by asking how old Trinity is now. JK Rowling’s family begged her to shut up about trans people

Image
JK Rowling has just revealed that her loved ones were “begging [her] not to speak” of her anti-trans views, something she claims she had a duty to speak about. This revelation came from her essay in the nonfiction book The Women Who Wouldn’t Wheesht: Voices from the Front-Line of Scotland’s Battle for Women’s Rights. It highlights the experiences of trans-exclusionary radical feminists (TERFs) in Scotland during their campaign against transgender rights. Related JK Rowling reported to police for throwing transphobic insults at talk show host “JK Rowling has definitely committed a crime,” the talk show host said. “I kept my thoughts to myself in public, because people around me, including some I love, were begging me not to speak,” said Rowling in an extract published by The Times. “So I watched from the sidelines as women with everything to lose rallied, in Scotland and across the U.K., to defend their rights. My guilt that I wasn’t standing with them was with me daily, like...

Six weeks of trial in a dreary Manhattan court has left Donald Trump diminished

Image
For his entire life, Donald Trump has been used to having things his way. He hired lawyers to make problems go away, learning from one of the worst, Roy Cohn, the closeted villain of Angels in America. And now, after decades of dominating everyone through threats and intimidation, Trump has finally found himself in his worst nightmare: not just facing jail but having to listen to people’s insults without lashing out. While much has been made of the magnitude of the moment – the first president ever to undergo a criminal trial – what emerged during the beginning of the trial was not how big the trial was but how small it made Trump look. The courtroom is tired and shabby, the antithesis of the garish surroundings that are so important to Trump. The room itself is cold, leaving Trump at the mercy of a malfunctioning HVAC system. For someone who insists on ostentatious displays of wealth and control, the setting itself is precisely the kind of place that Trump would never deign to set...

I spent a lifetime hiding who I am. Then I got to go to Pride.

Image
Up until the point this picture was taken, I’d never been to a Pride festival before. It’d been on my bucket list for a long time. I’ve wanted to go since I realized I was queer nearly a decade prior, but growing up in Scranton, Pennsylvania, we were lacking any major festivities to celebrate Pride Month. It was often dangerous to be out, and many times, I felt like if I presented myself as visibly trans, I’d face backlash from the people around me. When I finally moved to Cincinnati, I was ecstatic at the idea of attending my first Pride festival. And, in June of last year, I was lucky enough to be able to attend! This picture is of the Brent Spent Bridge as seen from a park in downtown Cincy – it’s a huge landmark in the area, as it crosses the Ohio river and connects Cincy to its various sibling cities in Kentucky. I thought it was a really cool sight, and it felt emblematic of what was to come. Mira Lazine Brent Spence Bridge Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newslett...

How Trump plays the “hateful” media while dictators play him as a “useful idiot”

The disgraced multiply indicted and documented lying former President Donald Trump in March of this year arrogantly  declared  that he could get Russian President Vladimir Putin to free imprisoned  Wall Street Journal  reporter, Evan Gershkovich, if he were elected President in November. Putin arrested Gershkovich, 32, a U.S. citizen last March while reporting in the city of Yekaterinburg, in the Ural Mountains on the unfounded charges of being caught  “red-handed”  receiving  “secret information,”  though the Russian government has yet to show documented evidence. From the time of his arrest, Gershkovich has claimed his innocence. Texas GOP platform calls for ban on same-sex parenting because being gay is “abnormal”

Image
A completed draft Texas Republican Party platform refers to homosexuality as “an abnormal lifestyle choice,” gender-affirming care as “child abuse,” and Drag Queen Story Hour as “predatory sexual behavior.” The platform has been voted on by state party delegates and will be formally adopted on Wednesday after a final vote count. The list of state party priorities calls for an end to legal same-sex marriages, same-sex parenting, all LGBTQ+ anti-discrimination laws, all transgender rights — including gender-affirming care for children and adults — a ban on LGBTQ+ content in schools and libraries, the defunding of all diversity-equity-inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and legal protections for anyone who discriminates against queer people based on “religious or moral beliefs.” Related Texas’ governor is spending millions & using anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric to defund public education Greg Abbott has said parents should support the program so that their kids aren’t educated by LGBTQ+ teacher...

Richard Dreyfuss mocks trans youth in bizarre rant at “Jaws” film screening

Richard Dreyfuss, the 76-year-old Academy Award-winning actor, allegedly made transphobic comments during a May 25 showing of his 1975 shark horror film Jaws at the Cabot Theater in Beverly, Massachusetts. Theater management apologized for his comments, saying that they do not reflect the venue’s views. “[He] started sharing his views on … how you shouldn’t be listening to some 10-year-old who says they want to be a boy instead of a girl,” one self-described attendee wrote on X . “Jesus Christ, what an explosion.
