Teen claims he killed his trans friend by “accident.” Police think it was intentional.

Earlier this month, trans teenager Jazlynn Johnson, 18, was murdered in Las Vegas. Police had responded to a call from a man who said that his 17-year-old son, Cesar Sandoval, had murdered his friend with a gun earlier that evening, although he did not tell police where the murder had taken place. Sandoval was then arrested and charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon and destroying or concealing evidence. Whoopi Goldberg defends Harrison Butker over “degenerate cultural values” speech

Image
While a controversial commencement address given by Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker continues to draw criticism from his targets and their allies, the three-time Super Bowl champion picked up support from one surprising source on Thursday: The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg. Last weekend, Butker insulted the LGBTQ+ community, working women, and his own church’s leadership in the speech at Catholic Benedictine College in Kansas, as he called for a return to religious patriarchy that rejects gay Pride and demands women “accept your lane and stay in it.” Related NFL player rants about Pride Month celebrating “deadly sins” in graduation speech as audience groans The Kansas City Chiefs kicker and Super Bowl champ used the speech to advocate for Christian Nationalist beliefs. “Degenerate cultural values,” “the tyranny of diversity, equity, and inclusion,” and “dangerous gender ideologies” were among the topics of Butker’s Christian nationalist screed. Donald Trump’s niece explains exactly why his kids aren’t coming to his trial to support him

Mary Trump, the lesbian niece of former President Donald Trump, has noticed something weird about his family’s support during his hush money trial — it’s nonexistent. Mary Trump noted that the ex-president’s younger son, Eric Trump, has shown up several times in the New York City court to support his father, but Donald Trump’s other children, including Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump, and his wife, Melania Trump, have been nowhere near him. Mike Johnson raged at Target for selling “this LGBTQ+ Pride stuff” & supported a boycott

Image
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) agreed with a guest on his podcast that shopping at Target is not “honoring God” and that he wouldn’t want to be “in Target when the Rapture comes” last year, echoing conservative backlash to the retailer’s Pride Month displays from last year. Even though Target had been selling Pride gear for years, last year, the store came under criticism from the far-right for selling items like T-shirts and onesies with rainbows on them to people who want to purchase such products during Pride Month. Conservative influencers went to Target to record themselves being disgusted at the idea of Pride and claiming that there was something inappropriate about children seeing the displays. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has filed a complaint against a Mississippi public school for alleged discrimination against transgender and gender non-conforming cisgender girls in its school dress code. The civil rights organization filed its complaint with the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) on Wednesday, alleging that Harrison County School District violates Title IX, a law that bans sex-based discrimination in schools that is commonly cited in legal action protecting transgender rights. The ACLU complaint was filed on behalf of a mother and her 16-year-old transgender daughter, known in the complaint as simply “A.H.” The girl has been prohibited from wearing any feminine clothing and has been threatened with exclusion from school events if she didn’t comply with their policies. McKenna Raney-Gray, LGBTQ Justice Project staff attorney at the ACLU of Mississippi, said in an ACLU press release, “A.H.’s story is emblematic of other girls at Harri

A school banned all books with LGBTQ+ parents. Now people are fighting back.

Two advocacy groups have filed complaints with the federal government over a North Carolina school system’s decision to ban all books with gay parents and characters questioning their gender from both classrooms and libraries. PFLAG Southern Pines and Public School Advocates filed their complaint against Moore County Schools with the Department of Education’s (DOE) Office of Civil Rights this week, according to WRAL News . The complaint reportedly alleged the removal of the books led to a “hostile educational environment.” The school’s decision was fueled by North Carolina’s controversial S.B. 49, also known as the “Parent’s Bill of Rights.” The legislation bans instruction on “gender identity, sexual activity, or sexuality” in kindergarten through fourth grade. It also requires school officials to notify parents if a student asks to be addressed by a name or  pronouns  that do not align with those they were assigned at birth, potentially outing trans and nonbinary kids. West Virginia AG wins GOP governor primary in race full of anti-trans rhetoric & a gay conspiracy

Image
On Tuesday in West Virginia, a five-man primary for the Republican nomination for governor ended in victory for the state’s right-wing attorney general, who will now fight in the general election on November 5 to succeed outgoing governor Jim Justice (R). Moore Capito, son of U.S. Senator Shelley Capito (R-WV), lost to longtime Attorney General Patrick Morrisey after rumors spread that Capito is secretly gay. Despite the accusation, Capito saw an 11-point rise in the polls in the final weeks of the race before Morrisey bested him 33.5% to 27.5%. Capito never addressed the charges. Supporters of Mac Warner, West Virginia’s secretary of state, sowed the unsubstantiated rumor over the last several months in an effort to shake up the crowded field in his favor. He came in fourth. As Capito avoided the issue, the rumor spread, foremost among the former West Virginia delegate’s detractors and importantly in some quarters of the media, which picked up the story after a concerted disinform

Moms for Liberty sues DOE for their children to have the right to misgender trans classmates

The anti-LGBTQ+ group Moms for Liberty has joined the more than 20 Republican-led states currently suing the administration of President Joe Biden for the right to discriminate against transgender kids in school. The hate group has joined a lawsuit led by the states of Alaska, Kansas, Utah, and Wyoming against the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland. The suit targets the Biden Administration’s newly announced Title IX rules  mandating anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ students. The rules interpret Title IX, which bans discrimination on the basis of sex in education, as a legal protection against anti-LGBTQ+ school policies. In particular, the rules require schools to let trans students use names, pronouns , restrooms, and other facilities that match their gender identity. With these rules, any school that receives federal funding will no longer be able to discriminate against LGBTQ+ students. This could affect states and school dis

A county spent $1.2 million in legal fees to deny a trans employee health care. They just lost.

A federal appeals court sided with a transgender deputy who was denied equal medical care when the Houston County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office refused to cover her gender-affirming care under their health insurance. This comes after the county spent $1.2 dollars in legal fees to avoid paying for the deputy’s $10,000 surgery. Represented by the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund (TLDEF), Sgt. Anna Lange began her lawsuit back in 2019 after her employer denied her gender-affirming care, despite having worked for the Sheriff’s Office since 2006. “Today’s victory is a win not just for me, but for all transgender Southerners who deserve equal access to life-saving transition-related care,” said Lange in a TLDEF press release.  “I have proudly served my community for decades and it has been deeply painful to have the county fight tooth and nail, redirecting valuable resources toward denying me basic health care — health care that the courts and a jury of my peers have already agr
