What do you think Democrats should do to build for 2028?

Image
Now that the results of the 2024 elections are in – Republicans will control the Senate, House, and White House – everyone is talking about what Democrats should do to make a comeback in 2028. We at LGBTQ Nation want to know what you think they should do the most. Should they move to the left and discuss their progressive policy goals, which could include a plan for single-payer health care and an upward redistribution of the tax burden? Or should they tack to the center, emphasizing a pro-business, tough-on-crime position? Or is the solution outside of the policy realm? Have Democrats let communications on social media slide when it comes to reaching out to certain groups, like young cishet white men or Latin people? Or should they eschew identity-based communications and talk more about how Republicans make the economy worse for working people after President Joe Biden protected union pensions and achieved low unemployment while getting inflation down to low levels? Which do you...

LGBTQ+ couples are racing to get married before Donald Trump takes office

Image
Fearful that marriage equality will be in jeopardy under a second Trump administration, same-sex couples in Iowa are flocking to the altar before the president-elect is inaugurated in January – and one person is going above and beyond to help these couples down the aisle. Through the organization Lesbians of Iowa, Chaplain Anitta Milloro has built a resource to connect couples with vendors that are willing to provide free services to queer couples, from photographers to officiants, to living will and notary services. They are currently helping more than 40 couples tie the knot. Related Democrats are at each other’s throats over the role of trans issues in Trump’s victory But experts say we can find our way through. “There’s only so long that I can sit in suffering before I have to roll up my sleeves and do something,” Milloro told Des Moines news station KCCI. “We take care of ourselves. That’s what we’ve had to do, that’s what we’ll continue to do.” Stay connected to your c...
