The U.S. Census Bureau, after nearly a year of pushing the Biden administration, will begin testing questions pertaining to LGBTQ+ identity on its American Community Survey (ACS). The Bureau put out a Federal Register notice signifying that this is the last chance for the public to give comment on all pending ACS questions, including those pertaining to LGBTQ+ individuals. The deadline given for comment is May 30, with an online form provided for any feedback on these questions. Judge blocks Arkansas plan to charge librarians & store owners with a crime over “harmful” books

A federal judge has put a hold on an Arkansas law that would criminally charge booksellers and librarians who provide “harmful materials” to children. The law targets books that include LGBTQ+ characters or themes. The law, signed by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R), was due to take effect on August 1. The former White House press secretary during the Trump administration and daughter of former far-right politician Mike Huckabee, Sanders has a history of making inflammatory anti-LGBTQ+ claims that aren’t true. DOJ has reportedly opened a criminal investigation into George Santos’s campaign finances

In a sign that federal prosecutors are investigating gay Rep. George Santos’s (R-NY) campaign finances, the Justice Department (DOJ) has reportedly asked the Federal Election Commission to hold off on any enforcement actions against the freshman member of congress who has become notorious for fabricating much of his resume prior to his election last November. The Washington Post reports that two anonymous sources familiar with the DOJ request confirmed that prosecutors are conducting a parallel criminal probe into Santos’s campaign finances and that the FEC has been asked to hand over any relevant documents. Earlier this month, the campaign watchdog group Campaign Legal Center asked the FEC to investigate the $705,000 that Santos said he loaned to his campaign.
