Trump campaign uses Pete Buttigieg’s picture to mock veterans over Memorial Day weekend

A Trump campaign official tweeted a picture of out Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg in uniform from when he served in the U.S. Navy Reserve in an effort to mock Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis‘s (R) military service.

The attacks between DeSantis’s and Trump’s teams are heating up, and Trump campaign aide Liz Harrington tweeted a Fox News clip where she attacked DeSantis.

“Ron ‘Dee-Santis has run for 4 different offices in the past 7 years,” she wrote. “That’s not someone who’s in it for the country, it’s someone who’s in it for himself.”

DeSantis campaign spokesperson Christina Pushaw – yes, that Christina Pushaw – responded with a picture of DeSantis from when he served in the U.S. Navy Reserve, the idea being that DeSantis is patriotic because he served in the military, unlike Donald Trump, who got out of the Vietnam War draft due to bad feet and being in college.

That’s when Harrington just posted a picture of Buttigieg in uniform. She didn’t write anything, but many of the people who saw the tweet believed that she was mocking DeSantis’ military service by comparing it to Buttigieg’s, either because Republicans don’t respect Buttigieg personally or the fact that LGBTQ+ people are allowed to serve in the military has become a major point of contention for the right this past year, who have declared it proof that the military is “woke.”

Conservatives did not react positively to Harrington’s tweet.
